(162) Changing Menus

Max has issues. His diet is off and he’s not eating very much. Since we got back from our last trip he really has been holding back from eating. He has always had loose stools but now its bad. Maybe it is worse now because he got warn out swimming and maybe its because its been too hot out and maybe its because we just put his flee medicine on him. It could be anything. His energy level seems alright but we’re talking pudding. Having said that, we’ve decided to address this by altering his diet.

On the advice of my sister, who has gone through this with JesseJames, we are going to take Maxie off his regular dog food and start feeding him by one food at a time for two days. We will start by feeding him rice. Remember the old BRATs diet? Bananas, Rice, Apples, Tea? Well this is what I used to give the boys when they were sick. Anyway, two days of rice, to see if this will be digested, then if it is we will give him chicken, a protein. After the chicken we will give him sweet potato or green beans. Hopefully we will see an improvement. Then if everything so far is going good and Max is tolerating everything with good results we will take into consideration his protein and vegetable tolerance and choose a new dog food that will reflect those needs. We believe Beeker can tolerate anything that Maxie can tolerate. The food that Max and Beeker have been eating was recommended by their trainer. It is heavy on proteins and lower on grains. On line, I looked up what was in their dog food and along with that I read some real concern written by owners with sick dogs because of the use of their dog food. That certainly makes me think. I’m thinking that their current dog food may not be the correct food for him any longer. Maxie needs more grains. We will see, hopefully with positive results. I’ll let you know.
